I am from the self-taught midwifery of my great-grandmother.

I am my parents’ dreams and my generation’s hope.

I am all of who I can be in a strange land called home.

My name is Johanna Wesson Suárez. Creativity and spirituality were my grounding forces to survive the overwhelming layers of being a monolingual, Spanish-speaking, immigrant teen.

Realizing the power that performing arts had to bring people together, I dedicated my life’s work to serve others through creativity. Working in community with youth led me to specialize in mental health,

In searching for collective healing and justice, I cultivated a deeper desire to understand individual and communal defense mechanisms that help us survive the impact of trauma.
